Default compression ratio change?

Keep in mind I know little about engines...

What would I do to change the comp. ratio of the LT1? I have the heads/
cam out now (mechanic does). Would it be something simple, like different
pushrods or something?

--I would only do this if it gives me more torque or hp (prefer torque).

Thinner head gaskets, stock, I THINK, is .039, you could go down to a set of .029's from http://www.flatoutgaskets.com

I think you could gain @ .4 or .5., have him check for valve clearance first.

Check out this site. Found it while trying to figure out my friend's compression ratio of a 318 he's building. Cool to play around with the numbers and figure out what's worth it.

Stock head gaskets on the aluminum head is .051". As said above you can use a thinner gasket with no problem. Iron head LT1 in the Impalas used .029", available at a Chevy dealer. You should have no problem with piston to valve clearance with a stock block.

My heads man asked me to buy (and I did) impala SS, 94-95 gaskets.
Maybe this is part of why.

What are the LT1 stock dimensions (bore, stroke, etc) for that calculator,
do you know?

Gasket thickness is the way if other things are held constant, but it doesnt affect the ratio THAT much.

Increasing the combustion chamber size, and selecting a different piston are the usual ways.

But with an LT1, if you go much higher, youll be running 92+ octane forever by necessity.

LT1 is a 350 SBC, 4" bore x 3.48" crank.

I wouldnt do this to just increase power, its not going to affect it as much as you might think, while keeping the engine on pump-gas.

The Impala SS head gaskets are the ones I run.
