I'm in the process of replacing my leaking radiator on my '85 Corvette with a new replacement radiator. While in the process, I decided to go ahead and replace all of the radiator and heater hoses. The only one that looks like it's going to give me a hard time is the heater hose running from the water pump to a "TEE" connection then over toward the passenger's wheel well and the second hose at the "TEE" seems to run off onto the Twilight Zone. Any suggestions on a way to get to these hoses to replace them would be greatly appreciated. Thie is the hose assembly that runs off of the water pump, behind the A/C pump, then who knows where.
Umm... if you're thinking of the diverter valve that opens/closes coolant flow to the heater core, then it's going to be either 5/8" or 3/4" hose. If I understand your post correctly, you're just replacing the plane jane coolant hose, in which case you just need (most likely) a few feet of both sizes. 3/4" for water pump to valve assemblyand 5/8" for the heater core return and to the throttle body/manifold (might be a good time for the TB bypass). I just did the `84, but unfortunately there are enough differences between our years that I cannot be more specific.
Some of the heater hoses are straight sections that can be purchased from NAPA, etc. There are some curved hoses on your car. These curved sections can be purchased from Jeff Kopp if you wan to keep the car "original". However, you can use straight sections to replace them. I recommend you consider a throttle body bypass as you replace the other hoses. If you need a piture of a bypass, send me an eamil as I have not mastered the are of posting pics on the forum.
The hoses I'm writing about are located near the water pump. It's attached to the water pump just above the lower radiator hose outlet and it runs into a "TEE" connection about half way to the "pipe" that connects to the heater valve. I'm looking at it, wondering where does that second hose that runs down toward the ground or frame go to.
I found it in the A/C Heater section of the on-line catalog. That's the one. Thanks everyone. I've got the original "TEE". I'll see if I can remove the assembly and use regular hose parts to make my own. If not, I'll order the assembly from the on-line store. Thanks everyone.
