I went to the drag strip the other night on a pair of my buddys drag radials, and broke three U-joint, the side yoke in the rearend, and beat up one of the half shafts. After I fixed all of that I found out that I also had a bad wheel bearing, real bad. I really need a new set of rear tires, and my question is If I run a dragradial will this happen again, or did the bad wheel bearing cause a lot of it??? I really hate to spend 600 dollars on tires when I can spend 300 and hook up better. Thanks
I replaced all of my U-Joints when I did the gears (new spicers) and run drag radials exclusively. No problems yet (knock-on-wood). :) I would replace your bad bearing and all of the U-Joints. You shouldn't have any problems...
Sounds like it all needed to be replaced anyway. The only time I have broken u-joints was when I had Brute Force installed and was launching on ET streets. The Brute Force had less than 50 miles on them too.
I would say that the bad wheel bearing assisted in getting the u-joints out of alignment and in a bind causing them to break. 3 at once is a major feat unless there is something else that caused it.
Put in new Spicer u-joints for a better chance at keeping it together. They have held up in mine with a 4500rpm clutch dump and brand new spec stage 3 clutch. Granted, the hardened outer spindle snapped in two, but hey, the u-joints held together. I run the cold forged Spicers tom Tom's Differential out of California.
I replaced my U-joints last year. should they already be bad??? The local parts store told me that the U-joints that I just put in were as good as spicer, Maybe. Does anyone know how to make a halfshaft loop, or were to buy one??? Thanks
