Intake Question
This will sit ontop of a ported TPIS intake with a 52mm TB up top..24# SVO ford injectors and ported heads when IM done..
Its all pretty cheap compared to my last BMW lifestyle.. An intake for my M3 was 1,500$Same for the exhaust..Forget head and block work cause you would be well spet you Vettes worth on a blown motor..Not fun..
Anyway thats me the guy that paid too much and saved a few hundred on Black powdercoat and TPIS equiptment..I wasnt looking for the 250$ job and I wasnt going for the 10k job either. I like just around 6k over 3 years..Or a grand every 6mos.
Thanks for you replies and I hope I can bust the cherry of 300hp soon.. I have to go find a dyno..
How can you guys all be modifying your intakes and switching from this and that and still have no idea what intake was made for what purpose and what is good to swap and use?
Comparing L98's to LS1's. I love that argument. Ever think that there might just be more to describing a vehicle's performance besides peak HP and torque numbers? Something like total power across the RPM ranges? So a TPI motor makes 345 ft-lbs at 4500 rpm's and nothing above? An LS1 puts it down all the way below and above. Comparing the peak numbers in those two cars is completely meaningless. The power curves look nothing alike, nor were they designed to!
Quote:
Never. and they come with.... 320HP... and like...waht.. 330ft/lbs of torque... and run 13.5's...STOCK.... and our 80's TPI's with 330Ft/lbs and 240Hp run high 14's stock?? b/c HP kills the clock...
Classic dude. Too funny. Boy you sure hit that nail on the head. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the rest of the rpm range. OBVIOUSLY since the peak numbers look close (or maybe in favor of the L98) and the LS1's do dominate the older cars, you think there MIGHT be something more intelligent than saying that torque is meaningless and HP is king? You think a difference of 10hp in your quoted figures explains the difference between a 14.8 second and a 12.9 second quarter mile????!?!?!?!?!?!!?!??!!
So you put your car on a dyno and discovered that it died after 4550 rpm's huh? What a discovery! Better call GM R&D about that find.
The intake was not poorly designed there Mr. Wizard. It was perfectly designed to make power down low. Why are TPI cars slow? Ever think it might be all the people out there ( and on this board ) putting big heads and cams under the TPI? Oh, and it matters none if the TPI is ported or siamesed or whatever. That way, you lose low end and top end and are left with not a lot leftover!
Your grasp on horsepower versus torque is humorous. All you need is horsepower and no torque huh? Well, since they are directly related to each other mathematically, you may want to look into that a little bit. Want to drive a car with no torque and all HP? Go hop in an S2000 and tell me how hard it leaves the line!
The LPE system you refer to is called a Super Ram. It does not cost $1200. It is much better than the stock TPI, but is very un-user friendly and does not sustain high HP use nearly as well as a mini ram. I have used them both. But I'm sure you have too, from your comments, right? Of course.
Torque is for trucks. It's physics and we can't deny it huh? Maybe my favorite quote on this board ever! I'd like to sit down with you and talk about your grasp of physics! HAHAHAHHAHAHA
Since this guy asked a question and rather than helping him, you heaped on your ill-informed hillbilly explanation of how to make power, let me ask you a question about this POWERHOUSE combo that you are planning and advocating here.
What exactly do you plan to do about the fact that an LT1 intake port is a completely different shape than the older style (therefore your ) heads? The ports themselves are trapezoidal and RAISED a whole lot higher than your heads are. The best example I can give is for you to go to the skoggin-dickey web site and look at their TPI intake for Vortech heads. The Vortech heads share almost exactly the same ports as the LT1 intakes/heads. They sell a new intake that has completely different intake ports for use with Vortech heads. Otherwise, they would not come close to sealing LET ALONE matching the ports up for effective/smooth flow. They go into very much detail on the changes that have to be made to accomodate. Why do you think GM Perf. Parts lists like 4 different intakes for carbs that have to be used with Vortech or LT1 heads? Because they don't freaking match up with old style setups.
TPI is 80's technology because it won't rev huh? What are you smoking? You ever consider that they did not design it to make power at 6 grand? You think that SOMEHOW they build the original carbed LT-1's that ran to 6 grand and made lots of fun high end HP and then somehow forgot how to do it? TPI was freaking designed to make low end torque. Nothing else. Compare apples to apples Jerky boy.
So you're going to get the super duper LT1 and save some money to buy your girlfriend something huh? Might want to go out and buy her a nice box of Trojans with a red bow on them because the fear of you reproducing is frightening.
Did I mention I loved the internet?

Looks good. Ports are very clean.. I found it easyier to undo the runners off the Plenium and get that out of there and then work on the fuel rail ,hose and everything else..
I think I broke my last 10mm socket and I lost a Bolt from the Throttle body and the right runner. I know the long ones too..Oh and to top it off my throttle body gasket is in 3 pieces and I havent got a spare.. I hope this baby seals..
Now my new plenium has the cutout for the dist.. And you know I looked at my new stuff and they are nice.. I hope I get this rolling before Friday. Its a 4 day campout..
