Trying to figure them out. I have an 86E Coupe with the 4+3 tranny, I bought a new shift boot and the package says it is for 84-88....so my question is....did they send me the wrong one or do I not know something of this car's history....
The one they sent me is:
4.5" wide and 8.5" long (apprx)
The one I took out is:
4.5" wide and 9.5" long (appx)

Re: 86 Shift boot dimensions (USAsOnlyWay)
Is this a measurement of the base? The replacement I bought was made by some company called Corvette America or something(sold in Zip catalog), and the base was a piece of cut plastic. The dimensions were about the same, but the plastic still came nowhere near close to fitting. I ended up peeling the leather off the new one, and gluing it to the remains of the stock pieces.
Kinda a pisser to spend an hour tearing apart and modifying the new "direct fit" product you just spent $40 bucks on.
I think the automatics boots are the same length, but narrower.
I'll see if I have pics laying around of the comparison between the boots I bought.
I have the exact problem. Tore everthing apart to find boot base frame hole pattern about an inch too short. Now I have to got through the refund or exchange hassle.
I hear yah. I geuss I could peel it up and it should fit, but that is really really lame to have to do that for like you said, a "direct fit" replacement part. I am calling Ecklers today (where I got mine from). To see what's up... I wonder how many people this has happened too???
Ohh and of course, this week looks like beautiful driving weather :mad

Re: 86 Shift boot dimensions (USAsOnlyWay)
It happens to everyone who buys it. They're all made by the same company, and they all suck! But that's okay, you have a Corvette, so you must be rich, so you don't mind throwing away $40 right?

:iagree: Yeah, exactly....well at least thats what the company is telling me. Fortunately with the prices of "vette" stuff I get two mods in one. A new part and a lighter back pocket! Man they should start charging for that too, its not fair we get two mods for one price. . .
I think I am probobly going to take the frame from the old boot and maybe try to mount the new one onto that, but I geuss we'll see...
Good news!!!! I am getting the new one today!!! I finally got a response from the Ecklers parts department!!! Hopefully others can use this info when ordering theirs!
Thanks for all the help guys! :seeya

Hi
On regards to your question -
Between the years of 84-87 some cars "for some unknown reason" used a different size shifter boot.
The part # A7722 measures 7 15/16" in length.
The part # 38730 is 8 3/4" in length.
What you will need to do is call our Customer Service Dept. and set up an exchange.
You will need to exchange part # A7722 for part # 38730 and this will work just fine.

Re: 86 Shift boot dimensions (USAsOnlyWay)
Very interesting. Mine was the same length as my stock one. The problem I had, was the base was too wide to fit and still put the console in place. So I still had to peel it off and put it on the stock boot frame.
