Worst Dyno Day ever!
Having spent the last 2 weeks telling me that I need to start taking my vacation days, I have convince him to let me go. Make sure that is done..Make sure this is done...yes Sir. Tell me where you're going...
Well Sir I am going to dnyo test my car.
(A well trained hubby) Honey I got the day off so I am going to Dyno the Vette...Can I go? (A well trained wife) Yes honey call me when you are on way home.
Where's this dyno shop again...in Birmingham 100 miles North on I-65. Okay easy vette trip, that why I got her. Call for directions and time...Hey we're open all day except for lunch...come on down.
I start the drive, I need gas so I some Low altitude 93 Octane (91 Octane is max in Colorado where I built the car), but I forgot the normal 16 oz treatment of octane booster,
The drive up at 80 out of 100 miles...hey where did this rain come from...better slow down. Of course all the 4x4 and minivan that I passed during the dry spots are passing me now. No worry no big deal. Hmmm getting a bit squirely.
Hmmm what are these roads made of? Coral reef and warm butter? Then it happed. Cheap/low mainentence roads=dip in the road followed by a hydroplaning section. Yep she fish tailed hard...and went in to the median/ditch thingy. Spun 180 followed by a another 180 once my rear hit the bottom of the ditch. Yes oncoming traffic was about to become a hood ornament, but the car did stop.
Call the insurance number...got 4 menu's into it when I just a push a button to talk to a human life...Police cars show up..."hey are you alright?" "Do you need a ambulance/tow truck?"..."No sir I'll let the insurance guys handle it/pay for it" 10 minutes later...the tow truck will take 2 hours to get to you.
the quick and the dirty...the Police guy got a local guy (at $85 dollars) to come get me in 5 minutes.
The damage...1 A lot of mud stuck inside the muffler. 2 Bent exhuast tip in my passenger side exhuast. 3 All pride lost 4 alot of mud every where else under the car.
What does a guy do? drive to the dyno shop anyway and have em' clean it up. Unfortunately they were unwilling to stick their $600/$3000 Wide band O2 probe in my freshly cleanded mufflers. But they ran it anyway.
The result: 195 hp RWHP but 257ft-lbs of torque! what a day! $60
So I am looking at how I going to get home safely...so I get two new rear tires for the rear $368
So after talking what my next steps are/were He said You know I haven't seen your engine yet let's take a look. 1 plug wire hanging down (0 contact) and another 2 brunt into the headers.
So the moral of the story...Go right now and do a basic check on your car. What I thought was last week, was actually 6 weeks ago just before my new trainees just got in. Take leave/vacation more frequently...your car misses you.
I guess a Corvette is like a woman ... if you don't take care of her she can let you down when you need her most. :jester
Ladies, pleas no offense intended. :bb
