Hypertech Power Programmer III - How does it affect other mods?
I've already added KN filter with free flow grill; about to add 160 thermostat, throttle body bypass, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and hi flo MAF housing. I also have purchased the Hypertech programmer. My question is do I reprogram before or after the other mods? I am having the fuel pressure regulator installed by a good mechanic with the right equipment and we know that we will have to test the engine to set the optimum pressure.
I think the consenses is that the Hypertech programming doesn't do much to help and in modded cars actually reduces power. The HT III would be useful to set the fans to come on at lower temps and you can change the shift points and firmness.
Third: (and this is just MHO)
The AFPR won't do you any good until you put a cam, heads and headers. Unless the stock one is leaking save your money. The PCM is too smart and will automagically adjust the pulse width to keep it's programmed A/F ratios.

Here's my take on the PPIII. For gear ratio changes, tire height, shift firmness, shift points, and for turning the fans on with the 160 stat, it's great. Other that those few things, it makes for a very expensive paper weight! :yesnod:
Re: Hypertech Power Programmer III - How does it affect other mods? (94 Red Roadster)
Guys, thanks for the info. I'm probably going to go ahead with all of the mods anyway. But, I called Hypertech and they say that their program is "aggressive" and is made for a stock engine. They recommend doing the programming first and adding mods one at a time to feel the performance. If there is pinging or a service engine signal the mod is not compatible. What ticks me off is that none of the aftermarket shops have a clue about this and that basically these horse power mods are falsely advertised.

None of the listed mods will make the car pull much stronger, a little but barely noticeable. However, they will give it better throttle response, i.e. it should feel like it has a quicker snap to it in response to your foot. As John mentioned, the AFPR is unnecessary unless you're breathing-up the engine, i.e. head work (stage I or II) and hotter cam, 1.6 roller rockers, 52mm throttle body, headers and exhaust, 24# injectors...
The HPP power tuning does nothing, but the other features can be handy.
