That may have been me to make that statement. I should have clarified and said that I've read that the MSD "spark retard" boxes have been shown to include some mandatory (unwanted) spark retard.
I don't think their standard ignition (i.e. 6, 6AL, etc.) affect anything with timing.

It has an adjustable start retard on some boxes, but ive never read that it retarded base timing for regular driving.
