The headlight dimmer switch on my '93 convertible has quit. It doesn't click anymore, the turn signal handle just moves up and down. It is on dim, thank goodness. Is this repair something that a novice like me should tackle or should I take it to a Chevrolet dealer? And about how much does this repair run? Any how-to help would be appreciated.
The Haynes manual shows a 10 step procedure for removing the dimmer switch. If you don't have access to a manual, I will email you the steps. Be alert to the fact that the air bag system must be disabled.
Is there any looseness or play in your steering column? Try putting upward or downward pressure on the steering wheel while pulling the dimmer switch back. It could be that the pivot pins in the tilt steering column are shot. The play in the column causes the dimmer switch actuator to become misaligned with the switch.
