Eeek wow! Unless you're going to be doing super high RPM the stock one should be sufficient. They can be had for around $66 through Jeff Kopp, well actually whoever his replacement is now.
I've got a brand new L98 balancer (6 3/4" or so diam) that I can't use. I'll sell it to you for $40 + shipping if you want it. The balancer also has some very minor surface rust from sitting in a box, bot otherwise in great (like new)shape.
I picked it up from my local parts store just before going externally balanced on a stroker; lost the receipt and couldn't return it. Never even ran it on the car. Let me know via email or IM.
Yup, I was checking that on mine too. The timing mark should be ~10 off from the keyway. The holes in the balancer are 30 degrees apart, just to give you a frame of reference.
Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I'm in the market for a balancer. :(
Ramanstud- Thanks for the offer on the balancer. I'm going to try to find one local so I can just get it over and done with. If I cant find one local, I'll shoot you an email.
Just another tip to those reading and wanted to know about the balancer problems.Sometimes a balancer will not slip at all and still begin to go bad.Mine did and it wasnt until I looked closely and then took it off the car that confirmed this(had a vibration).Timing mark was where it should be though. The rubber ring between the hub had shifted a bit,and was running in and out of the hub.Compared that with the new one and what a difference. The new hub had a perfect seated ring.New balancer made the vibration go away.
:)
