Has anyone heard of bypassing the smog system on l98? Someone was telling me about it and I was curious if anyone else has done this and if there is a purpose.
You don't bypass the airpump, you usually delete it and put a pulley in it's place. As long as your car is in good running condition, and yo udon't have visual inspection for emissions, you should even pass it no problem.
Elimination of it cleans up the look of the engine BIGTIME, removes some weight, and is supposed to add 10-15HP... DUnno about the HP, but I love how it looks without it now.
yea.... i have it. GREAT mod. i don't have EGR's, cats, nothing.. no AIR... it's great.. very very clean L98 I have. the Air pump eliminator is a great part.. but they forgot about something.... GM put a bracket behind the alternator bolting it to the Exhuast manifold.... NEEDED. I broke 2 alternators with this air pump eliminator.... and another is going... bearings go...or the housing cracks. When you install it... get an L bracket from ACE and kinda Rig it to fit. i did that...problem cured for $3. HOWEVER, i just put on some full length hedman headers.... and i lost that bracket..... so that's why i'm going through another alt. I'm going to weld a nice support bracket to the primary tube.... hopefully that will fix it. that part designs to put to much stress on the alt. I'm suprised nobody else has had this problem. i snaped one alt in half at the track... just letting you know. FIY.
Where can I get this eliminator from? I have so much crap cluttered under my hood that if I could eliminate ANY of it I would be thrilled. I can't even get to one of my spark plugs cause of all the crap on top of it...
