Default Air Diverter valve

I don't have cats anymore, and I'm looking to clean up my engine compartment. I was wondering if I can remove the air diverter valve safely without removing the air pump.

If so, would it be better to join the air pump hose and the cat converter hose (which does nothing now), or remove the converter hose completely and join the air pump hose to the exhaust port hose. The latter sounds like it'd hurt more than it'd help but the former just seems silly.

I guess I could also suck it up and buy the eliminator kit and remove the air pump, but that's a lot of money to spend just to clean up the compartment.

That air from the pump has to go somewhere. The valve diverts it, through a screened tube, towards the bottom of the water pump. Usually you get a crude thumpa, thumpa, once you disable the system, so if you can live with what sounds like a header leak on a beater, leave it as is. Otherwise, you need to remove the valve, the pump, or disable the innards of the pump so all you have is a pulley.
