Default Need cam recommendation for Stealth Ram

I need a recommendation for a good everyday driver cam shaft for use with a Stealth Ram on a stock '91 long block. I will also be using 1 3/4 inch long tube headers and dual 2 1/4 exhaust through stock LT1 mufflers. Heads have not been touched, and won't be for a while.

I was considering a Lingenfelter 219, am I way off?

Thanks,
Matt

Grumpyvette told me I needed a cam of at least 230 deg@.050 duration to take advantage of the manifold. I would guess lift somewhere in the .520-.530 range.

What transmission do you have? If it's an auto, you might want to rethink the stealthram. Gives up quite a bit of torque off idle.

heres the results compared to a ported TPI http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28...age021105.html
almost any cam will show an improvement over the stock cam if its designed for the better breathing intakes. cams in the 215- 220@.050 duration (intake) work very well but cams with slightly more duration will take full advantage of the better airflow PROVIDED the rest of the combo matches, I used a CRANE http://dab7.cranecams.com/SpecCard/D...1=Display+Card
with good results in my 11:1 compression 383 but it was obvious that it could use a little more rpm. so I swapped TO a #119661 hydrolic roller

http://dab7.cranecams.com/SpecCard/D...1=Display+Card
with a 3200 stall converter and 3.73 rear gears works extremely well!(especially with a 100-150hp nitrous hit)

remember the intake is at its best in the 3700rpm-6500rpm range so you want to keep the engine, cam, and gearing matched to stay in that range the vast majority of the time durring acceleration. call your cam manufacturer of choice and ask for a cam that works best in the 3700rpm-6500rpm range, to get the best possiable results. but keep in mind that type cam also works best with better gearing, heads, and headers,ETC. now Im not saying youll give up much tq under 4000rpm campared to the TPI, but its a fact that matching ALL THE ENGINE COMPONENTS TO EFFICIENTLY WORK IN THE SAME RPM LEVELS MAKES THE BEST POWER

keep in mind that better flowing aftermarket heads and larger displacement (ie. 383-434) will also see a greater effect from the greatly increased airflow

Thanks You for the recommendations! I am running an automatic w/3.07 gears.

My intent was to get the intake on and all the bugs worked out before I start working on my 406. I figured it would be one less thing to worry about if the intake was plumbed and working on the 350.

I have ready access to a Lingenfelter 219 camshaft, thats why I asked the question. It is a little extra trouble to change the cam while I have the intake off but then I can take full advantage of the intake while it is on the 350.

Thanks Again,
Matt

get the intake installed without worrying about the cam, that 219 lingenfelter will work reasonably well, get all the (BUG)s as you call them worked out first! notice that even a mostly stock engine still sees a good boost in hp at the higher rpm ranges due to the far less restricted air flow.
that 3.07 rear gear will make that 219 cam a viable option because the engine will spend more time in the lower rpm ranges, true you won,t be getting the full benefit from the extra air flow but youll still be better off than with a stock TPI and its 4700rpm restrictions in air flow, even a stock engine sees a good boost in higher rpm ranges, that 219 cam is designed for intakes like the super ram and a 2000-5500rpm range but its still a very good cam for street use! you can always change the cam later if you find that the engine needs a little more duration to run in the rpm range you want max power in, and inless you install the higher stall converter and 3.73-4.11 rear gearing you will not get the full benefit anyway. the stealth ram is an excellent intake, it flows a great deal of air, and makes good hp, your not restricted to any certain cam, but of course matching the the effective rpm range of the cam, heads, stall speed, gearing, exhaust and compression is always the best way to get the most from any engine combo
