Default Scan Tool Results-help needed with diagnosis

Disclaimers............

-I do not have a heated O2 sensor
-Scan tool records for 30 seconds, actual WOT was for about 15 seconds.

Do you guys see any abnormalities.

TIA,

Chuck

The IAC count seems very high at idle. It should be around 20's. Turning the throttle stop screw should drop the count and maintian the idle. Your idle seems high too (1125). Do you have it programmed for that rpm?

My car idles between 600-700. It jumped up to about 1000 when I plugged in the scan tool

I'm not sure about this. The temp is 233, which is pretty hot and will push the idle up. I need to check the ECM files to see what is normal.

chucks88: IM or e-mail me if you want me to double check this, otherwise I'll never remember.

Which scan tool was this from? The MAF gr/sec are way off. Also, how were at WOT and you were at sucj a low RPM?

There is another communication mode that the ECM can be put into and the idle will not be raised to 1000. Craig Moates software works this way.

Chuck here's what I see:
-it should not be closed loop at WOT
-the O2 sensor should swing to a higher voltage, i.e. over 900mV at WOT
-indeed the gm/sec MAF values should not be over 255

Note that on the rightmost BLM Enabled column it went from "yes" to "no". That indicates the ECM is now in open loop mode.

Are you sure you have the scanner setup correctly for your ECM.

An Actron

The MAF gr/sec are way off.
Where should they be?

Also, how were at WOT and you were at such a low RPM?
Good question, because I hammered the gas from a stand still to 115mph

At a steady 2,200rpm my AutoXray shows 21gm/sec. The limit of the MAF is 255gm/sec.

Oh, also your TPS reading should be over 4Vdc at WOT.

How far from NY are you into CT?

Sumpin not right with your scan tool.

RPMs are low for WOT
TPS low for WOT
Vehicle Speed Low For WOT (unless you were in neutral)

Hmm..., strange.

Wonder if the custom chip is doing something to the scantool.
The scantool is mine I let chuck borrow, and it works good when I use it.
Actually Chuck's BLM's are closer to perfect than mine..

On my car they count from 0-255 and then reset and repeat again. :skep:

Jim,

I can get to the Tapanzee in 1 1/2 hours.

Those TPS readings are not the same readings when I put a voltmeter to the
TPS sensor. So I don't know what's up there.

 Those MAF readings are way out of whack

MrNuke, if that scan tool is set up for your '85 it likely isn't right for Chuck's '88. When I transfer my AutoXray between the '86 IROC LB9 and the '88 Vette L98 I have to change configuration parameters, then all is well.

Chuck, if you would like to hook up to try my AutoXray we can arrange it, assuming we can ever get another day without rain.

Here are a few things I noticed, and I am the one that did the chip.

1. The BLMs are nearly dead on as I suspected they would be. So with that you are OK. And as Mr nuke said that is one of the hardest things to concour.

2. The IAC are way too high and need to be corrected by going through and resetting the min idle, shoot for between 20-35 at idle. This will limit the control the IAC has on the idle setting. Bet it swings now.

3. My guess it there should be a two place decimal like this in those MAF readings XX.XX that is why your seeing huge values, someone may have said that I did not read all the posts.

4. I have seen scanners not go to open when you envoke WOT, so that could be scanner dependant, and also some other items that are registering or should I say not registering could the result also. The chip would have nothing to do with the readings/scanner hickups, no more than a stock chip would.

5. I'm assuming that the RPMs for WOT where you were just at that RPM when the snapshot was taken....Correct?

Let me know if you want or get more information, as always I am available if you need me.

Well, ya can't get better than the chip guy himself. :chevy My scanner is off by one bit and goes to 99%, instead of 100%. This causes some inconvenience, but I've learned to compensate.

You can select any GM vehicle from '82-95 on it, so as long as he is selecting a 'new vehicle' at the menu it should be good.. I dunno...
