Failed inspection, engine running dirty
Found out previous owner gutted cat, replaced cat passed inspection. Found spare ECM chip in car DELCO HLR 0977. Apparently this is for overseas cars without cats. Has anyone gutted cat and used this chip? Will it pass inspection with this chip in. I don't know whats in the car now, hoping to get information from previous owners. Where is the prom located on a1985 and how hard to change. Older member not computer friendly, much experience in carb cars thanks.

The ECM is up underneath the dash on the passenger's side. There is a little cover plate with two hex head screws that cover the PROM for the ECM.

My '84 passes with a gutted cat. In a few weeks we'll see if it makes it with the X pipe and no cat. Good luck and ...
