Default Coolant fan not working

Here's what I've got so far...........

-Fan goes on when I connect A and B on my ALDL
-Fan does not go on when I connect A and E on my ALDL
-Fan does not go on when I connect A and F on my ALDL
-Fan does not come on when I turn on the A/C
-Swapped the relays with with one of the MAF relays with no change
-There is 12 volts going to both relays and to the fans' electrical connector

Why do I have a relay on the drivers side of the radiator shroud and a relay on the inside of my drivers wheel well(presumably for main and aux. fan) Yet I only have one fan. I've had my Radiator out before for cleaning and there is no fan between it and the A/C condensor(or is it compressor)

I have one fan and two relays

Could the coolant temp switch be defective and not sending a signal to turn on the fan?

This problem occured after putting scan tool on my car yesterday morning. I cleaned the connections and all was well again. Today however the fan is not working again.

TIA,

Chuck

Chuck you must have the Z-51 or Z-52 option that comes with the aux booster fan in front of the radiator. If you look up over the air dam into the radiator opening you will see the aux fan; this fan is NOT located between the radiator and the A/C condensor.

The aux fan is controlled only by the aux fan switch in the block below #1 & #3 plugs through the aux fan relay on the left upper side of the shroud. If you turn the key On and touch a ground wire to the aux fan switch wire you can hear the aux fan come on. The factory setting on this switch is well over 200deg F so it doesn't often run.

The main fan (behind the radiator) is controlled only by the ECM through the main fan relay located on the rear of the left inner wheel well. If you start the engine and open the connector (smaller one) on the A/C pressure line the main fan will come on. The ECM turns this fan on when in service mode (ALDL A & B connected and ignition on) so all is well there. The ECM also turns on this fan when coolant temps are high enough or when pressure in the A/C line is high enough; but not just because the A/C is on.

Thanks Jim,

I just went for a ride and everything is now working fine :skep:

I still don't know about that second aux fan. I'm gonna go take a look now. The only fan I know of is bolted to the radiator with the motor side of the fan facing the water pump.

Yep, that's the main fan; the aux fan, in front of the A/C condensor, is much smaller.
