I changed my oil yesterday and while tightening the oil filter with this new wrench, I put a 1/2" dent in the side towards the bottom   . Just curious if this is ok
Re: Any problems using a dented oil filter? (Triple Black 88)
Hi Steve, good looking wheels ya got there :D
I did this many years ago and was told the only difference would be a minute volume reduction in the filter's capacity.........in other words, no prob!!!

1/2" deep or 1/2" long? If it's deep, then you could have moved the filter material or the antiback flow or otherwise disturbed the inards. I would change it for the few bucks of a new filter.
If it's a shallow dent, I wouldn't worry about it.

10 dollars for a new filter and a nice piece of mind....how much for a new motor???
It just seems like a cheap insurance policy.
I've seen heavy truck filters go south with dents. Granted, they run around 100 PSI at highway speed, but I wouldn't take the chance.
