The bolt pattern on the back of the crank for the flywheel or flexplate (auto) is different between the 1 piece rear main seal and 2 piece rear main seal, cranks. GM went to the 1 piece seal in 1986. If you have the iron, straight plug heads, then you have either a 1985, or early, 1986. If you have the '85, you can use your existing flywheel or flex plate. If you have the '86, you'll need to change to the '85 and earlier flywheel/flexplate.
Angled plug heads are a performance advantage, as are the aluminum heads they are in. Unless you have headers that won't clear the "L98" angle plugs, you should have no concern. Other L98 owners may have experience with a head change, but I know of no problems, here. Good luck, and...
Thanks for the info. I have an 85 so I should be set. Using stock exhaust manifolds (for now). I'll just be careful when I upgrade the exhaust to specify the angled plugs.
I was looking for around 300 HP. Wanted a little more than a stock 85 but I don't compete so this looked like a reasonable trade off. May do headers and exhaust later.
Did you check out the info in Corvette Fever Mag.??????
Even Vette gave info on these "Crate" engines......it was in the last couple of months....
Check it out....
Hope this will help you...
Good Luck
