That small ridge just behind the seats, I was going to mount it to that, and somehow make it come back and up....Then have side braceing used with the two guild that hold the removeable top in place. Its a long shot but I'm going to try and put somthing together.
It would be more stable to have a harness bar (one single bar) made for the car. One guy in our club had one fabbed up for a very decent price locally.
I'm looking for pictures of camera mounts inside C4's without a rollbar or hardbar. Thanks
I just built one .... will be testing it this weekend. Even though it's OK, I think I already see areas which can be improved.
It consists of a solid bar that connects to the frame at the same place(s) where the front Targa top storage holders connect. I located a camera mount on line that attaches nicely to the solid bar. Although I have not measured all years of the C4 I think that the design will allow it to be transferred from car to car WITHOUT altering the car. It will also allow the Targa top to be stored in the rear hatch and still use the camera.
I will have pics of the unit but I'm currently on the road and won't be at my home computer until Sat or Sun. Will upload then.
Mongoose:
The one I made mounts using only the three targa top mounts. It's made of thin (1"1") oak and is shaped in the Capital letter T.
The bottom of the T has a hole in it to accept the plunger that holds the front of the targa. Both ends of the top of the T are shaped to fit into the receivers that hold the rear edges of the top.
At the juncture of the T, there is a vertical 90 degree brace on which the camera mounts. The whole thing is painted satin black to match my intrior and looks great.
I've used it at both track and Auto cross events. It works great and it goes in and out in about ten seconds. It cost about $5 and took maybe an hour to make in my woodshop.
