Here are the joints that you need. Spicer 5-800x for the half shafts and 5-786x for the driveline. They are made for aluminium drive lines.Spicer said these are there top dog joints.

Here is what happen to me, I did a Dana 44 swap a few weeks back and I told the guy at the Spicer vendor that I need some strong joints. He said to get the non greasable ones.$102 for all 6 joints. Come to find out the sold me the wrong joints for my drivline. So they gave me the correct ones for Free. I hae no clue how much they are. I would imgin they are close to the same price as the other ones.

corvette0096,

When I checked recently, the 5-800X joints are 35-37 bucks. Think that's why some shops will use the 5-799X ($23 each) for the half shafts and then use anti-seize on the caps. These are solid joints.

Here is the correct joint.

You will see two thing diffrent in this picture that you will see with the joints you have in your car now....

1. Clips are not copper.

2. The Caps are not shiny looking. They are a diffrent metal.

Why did they make that joint? Cause we have aluminium drivelines. What happens when you use the other joint? electrolysis! Does anti seize on the end of the cap prevent electrolysis? I would think not. That is not where the joints and shaft make contact.....Looking at the Guys sig I would say he will not try and cut corners on his car. :)

corvette0096,

I spread the anti-seize in the yoke area and around the cap and clip. Not disputing the use of the correct joints. But I think anti-seize is a workable alternative that's being used by a number of shops I have respect for. I also use it on my spark plugs for the aluminum TFS23d heads I have. The heat in that area accelerates the electrolysis process.

You should use anti seize on all bolts where they contact aluminum. Header bolts, Spark plugs,etc.......As for the spreading it on the U-Joints? I am really pickey with my car so I did it the right way...Plus you said you paid $23 for the joints and he is getting them for $20.50 for the correct one. Plus the cost of anti sieze. I see a bigger saving in getting the right one for the application. And here is the best part..Piece of mind.. You have a good day I am finished.. :seeya

Default U-Joints solid or greased?

I honestly can't remember the name of my universal joints. They did have grease fittings on them. We replaced all three shafts. They felt scratchy when you turned them(Where the needle bearings we're). Now, they've been in there a while and are fine.

Three sets Eric? How come so many? I replaced mine(originals) around 90K.

Tonight I just installed the Spicer 5-626X 's on my driveshaft, and they are really nice pieces. I plan on doing the half shafts when I do my gear swap. I'm still confused as to what part # is correct for the half shafts though.
