My local parts store sells remanufactured OPTI's for $139 plus $119 for the cap and Rotor. I'm thinking of going this way because they have a life time warenty on the distributor and module and for about the same price as a new unit from GM. Has anyone ever tried one of these units? If so any problems? I bought my alternator from them because of the warenty and have never had a problem its just nice to know when it brakes I get it replaced for free. I have a 95 LT1 and know I should get about 75,000 miles on the OPTI but that is only about 2-3 years for me I put a lot of miles on my car.
Get a new one from the General. Do not get a reman unit for this. I have read of so many people having to redo the job because of the reman unit it isn't funny.
Get new only, they are around $250 from Jeff Kopp at Superior Chevrolet for the later style unit on your car. Reman is a sick joke. They are nothing more than salvage yard takeoffs that have been washed.
The job is a pita, so you don't want to do it twice to save a couple bux. Follow C4 tech tips to properly seal all seams on the new unit with top quality high temp black RTV by Permatex. Your '95 already has vacuum purge setup so those mods are not needed. The warranty is no help when it comes to big manhrs.
Actually it's not Jeff Koop anymore, but Chris May. I just ordered A/C parts two weeks ago from Chris and he was awesome to deal with (and alot cheaper than my local ripoff Chevy dealer). I would not go with the reman either it's a POS:cheers:
