Don't run without a T-stat as the ECM needs a minimum temp to go closed loop and it whould take longer to attain closed loop.
If it's running too hot now:
-clean debris from between the radiator & A/C condenser
-install a lower temp T-stat
-install a fan switch kit to bring on both fans around the T-stat setpoint
-add a can of Water-Wetter

Re: thermostat removeal? (colotocali)
What are the pros and cons of me taking out my thermostat of my '91. It runs hot in traffic in San Diego.
:iagree: About not removing the thermo all together, but let me suggest some things you might want to do if you haven't already
1) Pull the radiator! These things are vacuum cleaners and we should be paid by the highway dept for helping to keep the roads clean. You need to pull it every year to two years depending on how much leaves and debris you drive thru. While you have it out, wash it and clean and straighten the fins. Flush it also.
2) install 160 degree thermo
3) get a switch, varies with year of your car, to turn fans on at 195 degrees
