This may have been asked in the past, but I am really curious as to what type of unexpected gotcha's can these cars present you with to strand you at a bad moment (like there is a good moment? Well, maybe in your driveway).
I know I have read of fuel pumps just stopping. At 3 am on a lonely highway, this could ruin your entire night. I am sure some of you have encountered other problems like this. And eliminate blown engines and bad trannies, there should be some clue before the problem on these. Thanks in advance.
i just had something in my fuel system let go on me, without warning. luckily i was only 2 streets from my house, but i have yet to find out what the problem is. i changed fuelp pump, but it seems i am not getting any power to the pump. who knows... :(
I got bitten by the ol' Optispark dog. I was on my way to work, just a mile short of my destination, wheh all of a sudden the car feels like it's running out of gas. 100 feet down the road and the motor just quit. Had to be towed to work, then got the car towed to a Vette garage. Mucho bucks later, I was back on the road again.
I had a fuel filter plug totally up solid and I fiddled with it trying to start it so much it ruined the fuel pump. $500 from the Chevy dealer. All because of the Gasohol crap we had around here in CA for awhile.
Mine has let me down only 1 time in 90,000 miles. I found out the hard way that my fuel gauge isn't accurate on a long run. I ran out with 2 bars showing. Had a reasonably happy ending with a Highway Patrolman. Took me to get some gas and even had some dry hand cleaner after I spilled a little on my hands.
The collant fan motor fizzling out, so the temp goes to about 240  Wasted no time getting that fixed, then the alternator starts taking the 'ole spiraling vortex southward :cry Got that fixed pronto, now life is grand and there's leisure time to install a lower temp automatic fan switch
