Default Sideview mirror fell off (92)

My drivers side mirror (just the mirror part) separated from the control mechanism and is dangling by the defroster power cords. Looks like it was glued on.

Are there and specifications on how to re-attach. I see nothing in my GM book and a search on this topic revealed no solutions.

Thx in advance ... Jim

Hi Jim, same thing happened to me in the car I owned previously (300ZX).
Take the mirror and trace it to a thin piece of cardboard (for instance the back of tablet paper).....then take the outline on the cardboard to a mirror/glass shop and have them fashion a new mirror for you (this might take them a couple days). I believe contact cement might do the trick in gluing your new mirror on, or they might have/suggest the proper adhesive to glue you new mirror back on. Good luck! :seeya

If they make a new mirror for you, it won't be heated. They should be able to reglue the old one.

:iagree:

I'd look at reattachment before replacement. A good epoxy (like Marine Tex) should hold it.

There is an "X" trunion that snaps into the mirror retainer; if that is damaged you can get a replacement from MAD.

If the trunion has separated from the mirror, maybe a good epoxy will reattach it. If it's metal to glass, try rear view mirror attachment cement.

Thanks,

The mirror is still in good shape. It didn't break or anything like that. Looks like I just need to epoxy it back on. Didn't know if there was anything special to use.
