Ok so i dropped off the car for a new battery which also turned into a new Batt and Alternator. So when i go to pick up the car he tells me the reason my battery and alternator went was because of a constant draw from the dash. So he pulled the fuse for the dash as a temp solution. (He does not feel comfortable fixing it, he mainly runs a tire and oil change shop - STS - though he does good minor work.) So here is my problem have anyof you gone about fixing your own dashes. The dash "works" (if it was plugged in) but how should i go about fixing the draw issue. I don't have the $$$ to spend to have a mechanic do it. Thanks Guys (and girls)
I'm no expert, but I'll try to get this thread going for you.
My mechanic told me when I had a bad battery that it was the security system drawing the current. I had let the car sit quite awhile. He said it would only take a couple of weeks to draw down the battery.
I don't see how the alternater could draw the battery down, but of course if it is bad, it won't fully charge the battery in the first place.
As far as the dash causing battery drain, I didn't think it had power when the key was off, but who knows.
Good luck, I hope someone with more expertise chimes in for you.
Well my mechanic has already located the draw as being the digi dash. So thats where my troubleshooting will start (considering since he pulled the fuse for the dash to stop the battery from going dead constantly. So now i have now speedometer or gas gauge)
Check out the following site. It seems to be the most comprehensive site on troubleshooting and repairing the Digital Dash unit. http://www.batee.com/corvette/index.shtml
The site had been down previously but is back up since this post.
The dash is SUPPOSED to have a constant draw. How do you think it retains your average MPG & Tripometer values? Its the same way your radio rememebrs your presets.

So, since i have not driven my car in since monday afternoon i should go check it. I might have another dead battery? or no problem at all?
My 2 cents......plug the fuse back in and then with your new battery and alternator I'm betting that you'll be fine...unless you leave your car sit for a month without running her...I agree you might have a bit of a draw for your memories like MPG and trip miles...but it won't suck a new battery flat...Good luck.
PS I took my digital Dash all apart last summer...It went blackout on me, the 4 bulbs blew all at once?!! Anyways before I found out it was worth like 5500 bucks canadian for a new one and 1000 to fix my old one...I tore it all apart fearlessly...found what looked like a small arc spot on one of the printed circuits, covered it with a silicone blob and put new bulbs in and she's been good for almost 5000miles...keeping my fingers crossed...
