replace receiver/drier when converting to R134A?
I always heard you needed to replace the drier when converting. Wasn't this because of all the oil in it? With the new 134 out there that can mix with residual R12, is this still necessary? Has anyone converted without replacing the drier? If so, what were the results? Thanks

i would replace the drier anyway , because of its age, but you are correct. it wasn't the refrigerants that weren't compatible , it was the oils. if you convert and use ester oil, you should have no problems.

not necessary to replace any parts:
use the following RED TEK 12A, it replaces R134a & R-12. you must vaccum out your system until completely dry! If there any small leaks, use RED TEK Leak stop before refilling. 2 small cans is enough to fill system.

Its always a good idea to replace the drier on any system that is opened up or has had a leak. There is a desessacant (i know thats spelled wrong) in them to absorb moisture.

There is a complete kit for the conversion available......Either Corvette Central or Ecklers.....
Just some info....
Good luck

ALWAYS replace the receiver/dryer if the system has been open for any length of time (over 24 hours).
It's cheap insurance.
If you insist on not replacing it then increase the vacumn time to 24 hours to be sure and get all the moisture out of the system.
A lot of oil will accumalate in it and not vacumn out so it's a really good idea on a conversion that requires changing the oil (R134) to put on a new dryer.
