I'm getting brake fluid on the floor. It looks like it's leaking from between the booster and master.
Is this where they typically leak?
So I guess I'm going to replace the master cylinder. From reading here I figure a NEW GM unit is the best way to go. GM parts direct wants $272, Jeff was $312. Sounds high or did I forget about Corvette TAX?
I haven't done one for years. Help me refresh my memory, remove the brake lines, unbolt it from the booster, disconnect wires. Bench bleed the MS, then reverse to install.
Bench bleeding?
Just fill it, put hoses on returning to the resevoir and it up using a screwdriver or something like that. I think they sell a bench bleed kit?
Sound right? Am I on track?
Any info and tips appreciated
You are on the right track. I would definately recommend a new unit over a rebuilt. I put a rebuilt on my 85 and it failed rather quickly. That is where they ussually start leaking, between ms and booster. It seems like I have seen new units for about $150 - $200. Maybe they are not GM. Good luck, Guy
Since you mentioned the booster, I'm assuming you are talking about the brake master cylinder. Make sure its the brake cylinder leaking and not the clutch master cylinder, because the clutch master cylinder will definitely leak down inside the car from the clutch pedal. Forum correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think the brake master cylinder will leak inside the car; will it?
:iagree: My clutch master leaked inside once before and I had a new rebuilt unit that was leaking behind the master and no fluid reached inside, unless enough fluid seeped in the booster to cause a leak inside I guess. Do you have a hard time stopping? And get a new not a rebuilt master/booster unit.
