I'm thinking this sounds good for a factory exhaust, A4, 2.59 geared car with only a valve job to the heads... Low end torque is important to me which is why I have ruled out the Hotcam
Torque is going to be increased with displacement, and it should be quite enough for him.
And any cam much different than stock is going to need a custom program, if you want all the power it can give. That one should even pass emissions easily.
The CompCam I have in my L98 is the 501-8, the mildest of their cams for this engine.
The specs are the same as the cam you mentioned except for the duration. The duration on my cam is 264 degrees intake aand 268 degrees exhaust at .006" tappet lift.
This cam has so much bottom end I can fry 315-35/17 Sumatomo's all day long. But I have the 3.07 gearing.
While we're talking about comp cams, how long do they last, anyway?
If, for example, you use a 941 Comp cam spring set, a cam like he described,
new lifters (my cam has .563/562 lift, but it's similar to that cam)?
I read in a book just now, performance cams are designed for 50k mi.
Is that even with lots of mild highway driving?
no thats more for solid cams and normal hyd. cams... Roller cams usually experiance very little wear...
Vader, the need not to program was jsut a added plus.. I'm planning on reprogramming since http://www.pcmforless.com can have one done and shipped in a day or two and they only run about 150.00 for the 93 vette chip with 6 montsh of updates... (piggyback setup)
vader - I've read in the archived posts that the Hotcam shows a NOTICABLE loss in low end torque but then really wakes up at 3000k... thats too high for my driving style. This is my daily driver..

That would kinda suck...
Like he said above, thats more for the older style cams, where periodic adjustments are needed, than the hydraulic rollers. These should last almost forever.
