Default Clutch question

Yesterday I took my car to have the clutch/brake looked over, i told the guy that the clutch isn't stiff as it use to be and the brake doesn't stop like before I replaced the booster. The guy pumped the clutch about a dozen times to check for slack and said it doesn't need bleeding. Then he took her for a test run and said everything was OK...the tranny is making noise and rods need to be adjusted.
After I left I noticed the clutch felt a lot better after he pumped it up. Isn't this a sign that the clutch needs to be bleed? It now engages around a 1/4 of the way when depressed instead 1/2 to all the way?

My 92 did that. I lost fluid from a leaking slave cylinder and after adding more fluid, my peddle still felt the same. I drove around block shifting and clutching several times and when I got back my peddle felt totally different. I guess the air pockets moved around. If your slave cylinder is like mine in order to correctly blead it you have to unbolt from transmission and flip it over in order to get bleed screw to be highest point of cylinder to get all air out. Hope this helps. :)

Sounds like you have air in the lines. It can be difficult to bleed, but the air does move around and can make its way up to the master cylinder.

I'd recommend flushing the fluid and bleeding it. See if you can get a speed bleeder for it. (~$10 if they have that size)

My clutch slave and brake master cylinders both went out at the same time BTW. Moisture eats away at the surface over time, and you no longer get a good seal.. so fluid leaks past the piston. Low pedal engagement can mean a bent clutch fork or air in the lines, high pedal engagement can mean a worn clutch.

The whole clutch assym is a few years old. After flushing the system the fluid turns black but there aren't any leaks nor do I have to refill the resevoir. (this I forgot to mention).
BTW what's a speed bleeder?

Speedbleeder is a check valve for the bleed screw, it makes bleeding the brakes or clutch much easier. You put a tube on it, loosen it, and push the pedal down a few times, while keeping the reservior topped off. The check valve doesn't let air back into the lines, and makes it a quick n easy one man job.

if pumping up the clutch makes it work better, that's a tell-tale sign that there's air in the system.
