Default Stock MAF question.

What does the stock MAF housing look like on a 95 ? I'm trying to identify the
mods car had before I got it and started modding it myself. I was planning on getting one of the aftermarket higher flow MAF housings. (rather than a complete GMS unit). One of the black nylon ones. So I took a close look at mine and the housing looks like nylon, and its a different shade of black than the plastic centerpiece that holds the electronics. I do not see a logo on it anywhere.

Thanks for any info guys.

Mine's a 94, but I think it's the same. It doesn't have any label, it looks like a black plastic tube with a rectangular box that hangs below with a connector on the passenger side. Pull the snorkle off, see if it has screens on it. If it does, then it's 99.9% probably stock.

One of the guys on the forum did a test with his stock MAF. I think he ran it on a 396 and found that it had plenty of flow for it. You might consider saving the money for something with more tangible benefits.

I thought L98's had MAF screens but not LT1's. ?
No screens on mine.
Like I said, the two materials look different. The two outer pieces that house/sandwich the sensors/electronics, are definitly nylon looking compared to the center piece's flat black hard plastic look.
The ported MAF housings can be had for as little as $80 and are supposed to flow about 40% better.

Your MAF screens have been removed or its aftermarket, what does the MAF say on it (Bosch, Granatelli?)

LT1s still had screens, and removing them doesnt really help performance at all.

Thanks Vader86. I have tried to find a logo on this unit but have not located one yet. I may take it off again and appart for an even closer look. Is the stock housing made of plastic or nylon. Again, the two materials I am looking at appear different.

Thanks for all the help.

Also I noticed that the aftermarket ported housings that are black nylon like you can see for sale in some catalogs, have any distinct logo's or appearance to them.

There are 3 pieces to it. Your actual sensor which is black plastic and 2 end pieces or commonly reffered to as MAF ends. These should be some sort of cast metal.

Here is another question: Does your 95 have a small hose coming from the rubber air boot in front of the MAF. If so you have a vented OPTI spark. I am currently modifying my 94 to vented so I was wondering if you could, would you take a picture of were that vacuum tube connects to your air snorkel. Hope you have a digital camera! You can email me if so.

Thanks Man!

OK. Now I'm getting closer to solving this mystery. So the stock MAF housing ('ends') are made of metal?

Thanks. You guys are great.
