I'm going to remove that air pump on my'84 next week and was wondering how to do it. I was told that after I remove it all I have to do is get an 85 inch six rib belt and it would work just like always, is that true, and where can I pick one up at? Two more things, I'm going to switch my efi and go carb and I'm going to change my cam to, so tell me if this sounds pretty good, its a 268H competition cam, its at 268 adv. duration and 218 int 218exh duration, and 454 int and 454 exh lift, what do you think. And, I was wondering about that cold start module on my vette, I know thats what is making it run crappy right now, so could you tell me where it is ocated on the engine, and if I unplug it will it stop running ragged? Thanks.
I'm not aware of anyone who has made a shorter belt work on TPI Corvettes for removal of the air pump. I used the BPP air pump eliminator kit. It's just a couple of brackets holding a pully in the same place as the air pump.
Other people have just gutted their air pumps.
Picking a cam depends on the other components of your engine. You should mention what intake, heads, carb, compression and size of your engine to help forum members give you good advice. You may want to start a new topic for this, as some members will skip this, not expecting a cam selection question.

The '84 is a Crossfire, not a TPI. The accessories are located differently on this engine. Althought *I* have not removed my AIR pump, I understand it MAY just be removed and an 85" belt, substituted.
Cold start module? On a Crossfire? I don't know what this is. Just take it off and see if it clears up the problem.
All you need to do is take the AIR pump apart and remove the impellers on the inside. It will spin free after the mod - no parasitic loss, no belts to worry about. I did it on my '88 and it works great.
