Default Scan Software

I have a 94 vette. Looking for some scanning software to run on my vette.
Don't have any cables or anything. Only thing I have is the laptop.

Looking for the best software and cables. Where to get them? Price?

Any help would be great. I know nothing about this stuff.

I am looking @ Ease http://www.obd2.com/ 315$ or Datamaster http://www.ttspowersystems.com 219$ I haven't decided witch one yet, they both have graphing and export capabilites and come with cables. Both require 32 mb ram and Ease 166 mhz Datamaster 90 mhz. :seeya :flag

I am using Datamaster and an AKM cable. This system works great, have never had a bad data log.

You can get both at this site for $190. www.akmcables.com/ccard.htm

I am an Ease part-time rep. I offer Ease OBD1 & OBD2 scan tools with a 10% rebate when ordered through me. Obviously I'm prejudiced towards Ease scan tools. There are a couple of major differences between the Ease and Datamnaster scan tools which may or may not matter to you.

1) Ease GM OBD1 scan tools work with ALL GM OBD1 vehicles. Saturns, GMC Trucks, Caddies, Corvettes, you name it. You don't have to pay for additional platform licenses or download several different versions depending on the make or year.

2) The Datamaster software for 86-89 TPI Vettes is still beta while Ease has been selling the GM OBD1 tools for years. The Ease GM OBD1 scan tool works with all GM OBD1 Vettes including 82-85 which Datamaster does not cover.

3) Using the Datamaster tool on 86-89 Vettes requires modifying the ALDL interface from Datamaster. One interface is used by Ease and is completely compatible with all GM OBD1 vehicles using the 16 pin OBD1 ALDL link connector. The same intrface is also compatibile with the 12 pin OBD2 cable for use by 1995 owners who may have OBD1 systems and OBD2 ALDL link connectors. Ease sells both cables.

4) Ease works with a serial port by default, but has the capability to work on laptops with USB only ports as well with a USB->serial cable converter available from Ease or Radio Shack.

5) Ease works with Win95, 98, NT4.0, 2000, and XP.

If you are only going to scan your own Vette and it falls in the range of GM vehicles covered by Datamaster I'd probably go with Datamaster due to cost. But if you might want to scan a friends's Vette or other GM OBD1 vehicle, the extra vehicles supported by the Ease tool is really worth the extra bucks.

Oh yeah, Ease is a licensed partner with GM and actually has access to their ECM/PCM programming. They sell a reprogrammer and the PCM code for Dealers and Licensed Emission stations to upgrade the official GM PCM programs in GM vehicles when GM releases new programs as part of emissions or driveablity upgrade requirements.
