Has any one tryed to use a frame cross brace off a convertable on a coupe to strengthen thier coupes so you can run with the targa top off and not have a flex problem
thanks in advance
Hey! I have seen people use this reply before, "ttt". ??? What does it mean?
It means "to the top". By putting something in a reply it gets your topic back up to the top where it has a better chance of being seen by members as new ones log on if response to your thread seems unusually weak.
The ONLY downside to the X brace is that it tkes away ground clearance that is already at a premium on lowerd cars.
I've heard this before. But how expesnive are these convertible cross-braces (used of course)? I mean, if they're relatively inexpensive but make a significant difference, then maybe they would be worth the sacrifice since they could be changed at little cost.
I have a 92 convert and it has the X-frame. I boxed the frame for added stiffness and it gives added "skid" protection plus it allows for an extra place to jack from. My Vette is not lowered and the only thing I've ever hit was the front spoiler. Now if I had a coupe, I'd go with a X-frame addition and the CB if I were serious about my suspension. If it does reduce the body flex, why wouldn't you install an X-frame?
I wonder if any of the die-hard autocrossers have gone through the effort of doing ALL the suspension mods available for these cars: cross and camber braces, heim-jointed links, poly bushings, coilovers, bigger sway-bars, etc... Wonder what kind of handling you'd get from all these mods. It's hard to imagine something that handles better than a stock Corvette.

I've done all of the above, sans the coil overs. Plus the car's been dropped an inch. Think "go-kart" ;) Very little if any body roll during hard cornering. It "feels" the way open-wheel Grad Prix cars "look" when they are jockeying for position on the track.

its no sacrifice.
I wouldnt have it any other way :D
I only mention this because , if you are lowered, you really do need to be careful over some driveways.
I even had trouble at a gas station once, where thier manhole covers were raised. I didnt realize it until I hit one. It bounced my car UP, then It came down on the next manhole cover. I thought I ripped out the entire bottom of the car.
I HAVE NOT changed a thing since then, Im just more careful where I drive :D
Hey ROME those are some SWEEEEEET wheels! What are they? And what size are those? Especially the REARS! The term 'steam-roller' has a whole new meaning now. Vipers have got NOTHIN' on you dude!
