I am about to put coilovers on my 96 I just picked up and had a question. My C5 was slammed with coilovers and the tires were tucked all the way around. The car rode like a champion with plent of suspension travel. I want to do the same thing to my 96 LT4 but last time I did it to a C4 it was resting on the BUMP STOPS (C4 ONLY HAS THESE NOT C5) and I had NO suspension travel. My question is has anybody heard of running a shorter shock or doing something else to increase travel I talked to DRM and they said this wouldn't help but I heard otherwise. I am going with 8" springs on the coilovers. The back will measure approx. 25 3/4" from the ground to the top of the fender. Any info or pictures would be helpful.
Thanks guys
P.S. Dont ask why I want the car so low, I just do! :chevy
I have F3 coilovers on a C-4. I love em. I have no shock travel problems with mine.Measure from the frame not the fender. keep the rear of the car 5-7 mm higher than the front with 3/4 tank of gas. Measure from the frame.
Who makes F3 coilovers? How low do you have yours in the rear? I want a race car for the street, I was thinking of going 400lb front and 375 rear springs with Z51 sway bars, what rates are you running on yours.
Thanks for the reply
FX-3 was a option on C-4 cars. They came with Bilsteins which I had revalved with their Morocco valving. I have a 32 mm bar in the front but do not remember what the rear is right now. I would look for a kit somewhere. Its alot easier then putting one together yourself.

Ok. I have FX3 as well. You left out the X so I thought maybe there was a brand of coilover I havn't heard of. I am getting the DRM Etra Grip kit so I found the kit, just trying to find out about shorter shock bodies with this kit.
I dont know about the FX3 shocks, but I saw a penske SA car built with coil overs, and it was not "slammed" but lowered. When I rode in it, I was sold.
I was told if I wanted mine to be lower, I might have to go to a DA (double adjustable) penske shocks for more travel, I guess the SA (single adjustable)dont have a selection of bodies and shafts like the DA do.
My wallet is still not allowing me to make up my mind. coilovers on penskes or FX3's.
Price? Are you sitting down?
This is the cheapest by far place I have found for these shocks.
the SA look to be 2200 for the 4
DA are about 3K for 4.
The penskes have threaded bodys, so they are perfect for coilovers.
this is the price for only the shocks. no springs, this is not a kit for the vette. just the shocks
I've typically run 26"/26: measuring as you do, from the top of the fenderlip straight down to the floor (ground) with my EM coil-over 1990 Vert. Suspension travel is minimal, and ground clearance (measured from the lowest point, the X-brace) is only about 2 1/2". Speed bumps might just as well be WALLS.
This year I've moved it back up to 27"/27". That extra inch makes all the difference. Car has enough suspension travel, and also can clear speed bumps. Height-wise, it now rides about 1/2 way between a stock Vert and my previous "slammed" look. Everything's a compromise, it seems.
I think I just had an accident in my pants! :banghead: There has got to be a way to lower this generation of car like the c5 and still have adequete suspension travel. Please god give show me the light. No one has heard of shaving bumpstops or shorter shocks. :chevy
