When I installed a new Door Ajar Switch, on my 95 convertible, and closed the door, I quickly broke it. In the past, when I replaced a metal one, I pulled the sleeve, all of the way out, and gently closed the door. That allowed the switch to self-adjust. I examined the plastic one, and could not find an adjustment of any kind. The sleeve did not turn or screw. Does anyone know how to adjust it? The service manual only explains how to replace it.
:banghead:
on the plastic one the inner pin is a tight fit and can be pulled out or pushed in. usually it is out when new and once the door closes for the first time it adjusts itself.
The new part looks just like the old one, except the thin pin is much longer. When I gently closed the door, the back of the switch was pushed out into the inside of the door. It is now useless. :banghead:
In classic GM style these door ajar sensors are plastic crap. In one day the dealership replaced 4 of them in my Vette.....3 were bad from GM...I personally have replaced 5 or 6 of them and 1/2 of them were bad from GM in the first place( also in classic Chevy dealer style no returns on electric parts!)
Ecklers now sells these sensors and they are cheaper than from the dealership......so buy 2. :smash:
Honestly GM ticks me off....EVERY Japanese car I have owned has metal door ajar pins......so what does GM put on their "flagship"....50 cent garbage plastic door ajar sensors :mad
