Hiya,
Still a newbie, handles rejection well, don't hold back!
Okay, so I bought what must be the most expensive fuel pressure guage on the planet to see what's happening in the fuel system of my '85. I attached it to the schraeder valve on the fuel rail, only spilled drops(both of them) of fuel, no pressure. Turned the key and instantly had 46 psi. Started the engine and had 38-39 psi at idle with vacuum still attached to FPR. That got a "cool" from me and I went on to something else. Several minutes (30 or so) later a glance at the guage revealed only 5-6 psi in the rail. I must preface all of this by saying I have no hard start problems at all; she fires right away. Is this condition normal? Isn't a tpi system supposed to hold pressure at all times? Is something leaking(injector/s)?
I've heard about, but never seen, a injector cleaner that attaches to the fuel rail at the schraeder valve and used by pulling the fuel pump fuse then starting the engine. Does this exist? Does it work?Where does one find such an item? Comments, words of wisdom?
I've read alot of posts about fuel pressure here so I'm looking for consensus for the '85 model. What's the optimum pressure? Will a AFPR make any REAL difference by offering increased fuel pressure? What's the upside/downside to dialing up the fuel pressure to say 50psi?
id say its normal, mine holds for about half hour then slowly drops,as far as the fuel inejction cleaning kit,i had one when i had my shop and yes you pull the fuse for the pump hook i to the rail and start the car it runs off the cleaner and works rather well, you adjust the pressure on the guage till it runs out and dies then disconnect it put fuse back in and start it up.
Re: Fuel Pressure at Injector Rail (patsnitrovette)
Hiya Pat,
Thanks for your reply!
I'm going to look into finding and then using that cleaner. Who knows how many owners she's had before me so this seems like a good base point to start from without replacing the injectors. In a related...I changed the fuel filter last night with no trouble. I checked fuel pressure before and after and found that I picked up almost 2 psi after the change!
Thanks again!

Hiya fellas...
Stopped in at OReillys auto parts today. Sure enough they had a can of the stuff but no adapter to attach it to the fuel rail. The can has a small threaded top similar to a can of refridgerant but diff size. They said they usually only had demand for this item from professional repair shops they supply.
If you can't locate one, I'll send you mine via US Mail. It'll take about a week to get it to you. I'd be happy to lend it to you if you promise to send it back. :nono: I suspect you want one right away though.
Actually though I'm in no great rush. The engine is running fine now after finding that elusive vacuum leak. Basically I'm trying to catch up on much of the routine maintenance and repair that was most likely neglected by previous owners and develope a baseline to work from in the future. Cross the eyes; dot the tee's kinda thing...LOL. My 85 was in such poor shape; the word "shame" comes ... no ... leaps to mind! It's hard to imagine the person (term used loosely) that would treat a Vette with such disregard.
I'm sure I can find an adapter pretty soon. If not though I'll drop you a note on the forum!
