I installed one of those high voltage coils (davis performance) and now my tachometer is way off. Is there anything that can be done? New to this so any help is appreciated.
Re: high voltage coil affecting tachometer (blk406)
What are your symptoms? I installed an Accel high voltage coil and my tach started going crazy over 3000rpm. I thought I might have a bad tach filter so I build another one but that did not help. I tried another Accel coil but it did the same thing.
I ended up ordering a new stock coil. I've heard these are as good as any and have not had any problems since.
Just remembered on some non-digital dash years when installing an MSD you need to remove the tach filter. Not sure of the details but someone will come along soon who will.
I just did this last night, and it seemed to fix my tach problem in my 1990.
Here's some notes: Do the job in full sunlight, as visibility is bad back there. On an L98, at least remove the dist. cap, or better yet, the whole dist. I left the dist. in, and removed the vacuum lines, windshield wiper plug, oil pressure sending unit plug for access. My tach filter had a mail and female connector, so no cutting/splicing was needed to remove it from the tach circuit.
