Default Oil temp issues

I've been having an oil pressure problem lately, if I use 10-40 my idle oil pressure would be down to 5 and cruise pressure would only get to about 20. So I have been using 20-50 and the idle pressure was about 14 while cruise was around 37. Oil temps were around 220* with a/c on cruising. Water temp right around 200*.

Last week I changed my oil pump because I had the pan off and figured I may as well since it was right there anyway. So I put in 10-40 and my new pressure with the new pump is 15 at idle and 42 while cruising. I am using a 60/40 mix for coolant with a 160* thermo, fans still set at stock 235*. While cruising with the a/c on my coolant temp never peaks above 240* before it starts to cool down to about 220*. But the oil temp with the a/c on hit 260* yesterday, even with the a/c off it still hangs around 245*.

So any ideas why my oil temp is so high? Will switching to 20-50
keep it cooler?

Any help from you guys would be great because it's been 100*+ this week and it's no fun cruising around in an easy bake oven and not be able to use the a/c :D

Can you see any evidence of an oil leak? If you had a blown sending unit, that would cause your pressure to drop...

No oil leaks, I park on a white sheet in the garage and it is still clean. Plus my oil level is fine. The sending unit has about 5000 miles on it. I'm ok with the pressure, it's just that the oil temp has me worried.

Yeah, I can't say it's always been that way though, but since I've replaced the rear main seal, trans pan gasket, trans dipstick grommet, diff side seals (or whatever they're called), intake manifold gasket, lower radiator hose, radiator, oil dipstick, and oil pan gasket, no more wet spots :D  Now of course since I posted this, I probably just jinxed myself. :jester

Don't quite know what to tell you.
If you saw my post from this AM, I'm also have an oil problem. What I didn't put on my post that may relate to you is that my oil temp was 220 and H2O at 200 degs. with the A/C on. I was a little nervous because it was at 200 and 190 or so. In my area of Calif at the time it was also 100 degs. or so.
I'm glad you made the post because I didn't take into concideration the A/C.
I will note the oil presure next time to see if this indicates an oil leak about the oil sending unit.
Thanks

I have 150k on engine and run 20-50 Castrol GTX for older cars. My OP is about 35 at idle and about 55-60 at cruise sometimes oil temp gets to 245 degrees here in desert. Thinking about syn.

i was told the oil temp usually lags the water temp by 10 or so degrees, but i'm not sure if your oil pressurer is low if that would affect your oils temp also. as far as your oil temp readings , your oil temp sending unit might be bad, good luck , i'm real sure about the oil verses water temp. :steering:

Yes...but once oil temp exceeds water temp it usually stays higher because of the same reason it took longer to heat up. If you want a better explanation call a chemist or a physisist.

 Perhaps you have bad sensors...because I wonder about both your coolant and oil temps

Generally, cruising, my oil temp stays around 20 degrees above coolant temp. That is till I get into driving hard in high temps, then coolant and oil temp may get within 10 degrees,,,it really varies a lot depending on conditions

But you temps, coolant and oil sound high and your oil pressure sounds low.

I use AMZOIL Gold 20-50 and the lowest oil pressure I have seen with oil temp at 215 and coolant at 205 is 49PSI at idle

It was close to 100 degrees here today, and driving around country roads, coolaant got to 184 and oil 204

Yoiu might want to pull the rad and make sure it is clean

Pressures are awfully low......but seems like I can't help you...if the car is running OK.....maybe the gauage is wrong....
Never seen these type of pressures....I'd really be worried if I did...
I'm sorry but forgot to ask how many miles on your vette????????
