I have been having a problem that occurs from time to time when I turn on the ignition on my 85 Vette. It seems to happen more often when the car has been sitting for several hours or days. When I turn the ignition key it will just make a clicking sound (engine does not turn over). It may take 2-3 times and then it will start. It has always eventually started when doing this. If the engine is warm and it's less than an hour or so, this doesn't happen and the car will start right up. Whenever this happens, it causes my radio/CD player (Jensen) to go to the default settings for the stations and clock. I've had the starter, alternator and battery all replaced within the last 8 months. They also cleaned the battery terminals and checked the wires. I've also taken it to the stereo dealer that installed the radio. Since the radio is a non-Bose unit, they also disconnected all of the amps on the Bose speakers so that the unit plays with them. They sound great!. So what I need is to have someone tell me what might be causing this problem when I start the car.
You have the symptoms of a poor cable connection to the battery. Remove battery cables (neg first). Clean the cable lugs and the battery posts and replace the cables (neg last). You want your cable connections to be like your lover, ........bright and tight. :D
