Hi there!

Since a couple of days, my fathers' Ruby Red '93 has developed a strange problem. The car just stalls at the most inconvenient moments! :(

We checked the battery and alternator and they're fine.
Then I hooked up my Diacom and got a strange trip...

We started the car, Diacom logging it all, and I got some error codes: 16 (Direct Ignition), 33 (Mass Air Flow), 36 Mass Air Flow. Real strange and not related problems. Then the car stalled while logging. Just while we were discussing the readouts (the car stil in ignition) strange things happened: the RPM meter flipped all over the place and the car started to make strange noises of (electrical) things switching on and off... I switched off the ignition as fast as I could. After that the car started up real bad, gasoline smell was very present.

It looks like a massive computer malfunction or even a reboot, doesn't it? What could cause such a problem? A malfunctioning computer?

I have no idea if this is similar or not, but my dad's '93 had a computer problem. When driving, all idiot lights would come on for 1 or 2 seconds, the engine would "cut out" for a brief second, and return to normal, then would do it again and again. We took it to our local Chevy dealer and needed a new computer. This was done when the car was about 4 years old and had about 3000 miles on it (currently, it has about 6,500 miles....hardly driven). Might want to check the computer thing out. It went out on ours unexpectedly. Replaced it, and it's as good as new.
