47,000 is fairly early for a clutch replacement! I thought my clutch was shot at 79,000 and replaced it (and the flywheel and everything else). It turned out the only real failure was the pressure plate and perhaps the throwout bearing. Had a good 30 to 40,000 left on the clutch itself. Oh, well.
Also, master / slave cylinder problems are common.

What's it doing?
Pete
it's making this ticking noise I think it's the throw out bearing the clutch still grabs good I'm going to change it do you think I should replace or resurface the flywheel
Thanks

You will learn what the noise is when you take it apart, but be careful of who you let work on the system. It is an unusual setup and if the shop does not have knowledge of the ZF and dual mass, they can cause more problems that they fix.
There is great debate on resurfacing the dual mass flywheel, many have done it with good results (as reported here), many regret doing it. My decision was to replace the flywheel before I even saw it. DUMB, it was fine. However my 89 does drive like a brand new car, feels better than my 2000 (clutch wise).
Personally, I would just clean up the dual mass with a non-directional finish, scotch-brite on a die grinder (being careful not to get any "stuff" in the dual mass). GM does not recommend cutting it.
Why not cut a dual mass flywheel? Beats me! Rumor's range from 1) cuttiing fluid damages the rubber like dampening substance between the two surfaces; 2) the surface is acutally conical or parabolic and cutting will flatten the surface; 3) cutting will damage the surface temper; 4) insufficient tolerence to remove any additional material; 5) bad carma to violate GM shop manual. However, have read enough posts on this forum in the last 3 years to know that it is real possible to mess this up bad!
Good luck with your decision. Lots of posts on this issue, use the search function.

Or the other never ending debate about replacing the dual mass with an F-body single mass aluminum for ooooooh about 1/4 of the price. The only problems I've read about going with the F-body flywheel is the increased trans chatter, but it's a matter of opinion if you can live with it or not. I plan on going this route because I don't care about the noise personally......I have yet to search the archives on this subject though.....I guess I will as should you :seeya:

I have a 4+3 flywheel with a spring hub clutch, and you can barely make out the tranny noise over the exhaust (gutted cats, no mufflers) :jester :steering:
