Looking for tips on installing a Hurst shifter in a 94 Vette Convertible. I have removed the X brace and am trying to drop the exhaust so I can get to the rubber boot on the bottom of the transmission. Are there any tricks to disconnecting the exhaust so it will drop a few inches? I removed the 3 nuts from the exhaust at the manifold on the passenger side and disconnected the pipe from the cat on the drivers side, but it did not budge. I also disconnected the front hanger. Would I have better luck if I disconnected the pipe from the manifold on both sides? Is there something holding the pipes that I am missing. Any other tips on installing the Hurst would be appreciated. Thanks.
I dropped the entire exhaust from the cats back (92 LT-1 vert). It wasn't hard at all. This gave me the required room to get at the tranny. I had to replace the rubber boot (bottom one) because the Shade tree mech that replaced the clutch before I bought it didn't know how to work the boot. :banghead: So I wanted plenty of room. It would be nice if you had the Helm's GM shop manual for your Vette. While you're in there replace your fuel filter as it is easy to get at with the X-frame and exhaust out. The hardest part of the job for me was the upper boot install. Be patient, you'll get it in right.
Out of all the improvements I've done to my Vette, The Hurst shifter was the most enjoyable addition to my ride. It makes shifting like it should be. :yesnod:

I got the shifter in, but had to drop the exhaust. The only thing to do now is have fun getting the lower rubber boot back in the groves so I can get the new pull ties in place. Thanks for everyone's help.

so this rubber boot, is it that a pain in the neck? Seems like I need someone that has done this job before to get it right the first time. Any referrals would be greatly appreciated. Just got my Hurst in the mail today.
You guys are about 15 years late. Rubber boot is easy. Use a bungie cord to hold it out of the way while you do the shifter mechanism. It reattaches easily.
You can get them on eBay from the seller "Hurst-Shifters".
