Think I've got an expensive plug change on my hands. After changing, had rough idle-miss, messed w/ plugs/wires for a while...still no better. Unfortunate situation required it be driven for probably 20miles. Thinking it had to be no.8 plug not seated or something, messed w/ it for another hour when I went to the drivers side and found no-7 and no-5 plug wires on the wrong plug!!! Corrected and it seemed to have a clean idle w/o any miss. I changed the oil and took for a drive. Idle seems pretty good but accelerating w/ a load I'm getting a baffling and feels like a loss of power and maybe a miss...
Can anyone give me the damage..be gentle, I own this one (screw up and car both).
Check to make sure you have all the plugs in the right place. Sounds like there may still be two crossed. I have run mine with plugs crossed for 30 miles or more with no ill effects.
i don't think that 2 crossed wires will result in any damage. maybe just some fouled plugs. good luck.
:withstupid: Plus what Vette92 said.
It is very easy to get plugs in each bank confused which wire goes on which plug, mainly on driver side where you can't effectively see the opti and trace the wire routes easily at all. Its why I do mine one at a time: pull #8, replace #8. Pull #7, replace #7, etc.
should not hurt anything mechanically.
a major backfire might dislodge something or damage a sensor but you didnt mention any backfiriing.
did you happen to drop a plug and possibly close the gap?
go through the firing order and ensure they are all right.
(tip-on any v style engine the furthest head forward is always no1 cyl)
i would try unhooking a bat cable to reset the computer.
if it ran ok before it will run ok or better now.
you could have gotten raw gas in the pipes and convertors from the plugs firing at the wrong time.
and/or sooted the o2 sensors.
im betting this could clean up by reving it a few times AFTER you have the wires all correct.
theres lots more experianced here that should be piping in to tell you tricks on "de-fueling" the exhaust and sensors.
but fear not,you shouldnt be out any money.
my .02 :)
oh yea,yea didnt happen to get honery and tug on the cable part of the wires did you? that could cause a gap in em and give probs too.
I only unplugged 1 at a time on the opti...other than drivers side, kept the 1 by 1 approach.."KISS" and boy am I "S". I'll probably verify the drivers side again, may drive for a bit (only did about 2 miles after I found my first DUH...
Pheew...just dont' want to costly ones....summer daily driver, but have a spare...
