In town driving, stpo and go--195-225 then fan engages.highway--193. I cleaned out between rad.and cond., it was half full of leaves and debris. Get this--also found was dead mouse and a black trash bag.Oil temp--180,oil pressure--47 lbs., highway. :hurray: :hurray:
I have a Be-Cool radiatior in mine and it runs at 170 degrees all day long with the 160 stat. I never use the AC so can't comment there. On my last two DE's (Moroso and Sebring), it never got over 205 degrees and this is after a hard 25 minute session. I use 80% water, 20% anti-freeze and a bottle of water-wetter.
Just finished the Mez pump install and have 10 miles on it with an outside temp of 90, It got up to 185 (180 stat) and varied +/- 5 degrees. Haven't hit traffic yet. Interesting thing with this pump, when i was on it the temp got up to 190 after a moment or two and then it cooled off to 180 while I was at a stop sign. Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmm. :steering:
I've noticed that after jabbing the throttle then slowing immediately, the temps jump to 210-215, then drop back to 200-205. I just chalk it up to a bunch of sudden heat and no way to quickly dissapate it.
At 80MPH in 90-95 ambient, the temps run right at 204, at 60 in same heat they run 208, at 120 in same heat temps run 214, I wasn't at 140 long enough to have time to watch the temps (or much of anything else!).
It's NEVER under 210 once it reaches operating temperature and as high a 245 in traffic. That's one of the reasons I dropped it off at the dealer's this afternoon (it's under an extended warranty). I also took along a printout of this thread from earlier today in case I got the "these cars are supposed to run hot" argument from them...
I have a 160 stat and I cruise at 173 in 6th at 75 mph in 103 degree weather. In traffic, the temps cruise up to 180 or so. Once I get moving it doesn't take long to go back down. I have both fans come on at 160 and I run half antifreeze and water.
Just moved to Las Vegas since late April this year.
Las Vegas ambient temp. at time of temp. check was 105-110 and engine temp. ~220-226 around town. When I drive the car back to California on the weekend the coolant temp. stays at 215-225 on I 15 at 70-80 mph. The oil temp. sometime went up to 232 degree. Once I got to Southern CA, the coolant temp drop down to 195-200 and oil temp. ~ 200-210.
I park the car in CA since late June because Las Vegas is too hot to drive with all the glass on the car.
I've put a 160 degree 'stat, and the E-Prom to kick the little fan on at 160. I've only seen it go above 200 once since then, and the 'Big Fan' has never come on.
What prompted me to go that route was when I was sitting in traffic watching it climb above 230. I was a little bit startled, but mostly relieved, when that Big fan kicked in, but I decided I didn't want to watch those numbers climb like that ever again.
In traffic ie under 50 mph, regardless of ambient temperature my '89 water temp goes up to 225 before the fan comes on, and goes back down to 212 when it goes off.
Cruising on a hot day ie over 90 it will sit on about 200 with the air on, or 190 with the air off.
On a cooler day it won't go above 185.
On the track (road racing) it will get up to about 244 on a hot day.
I have a big aftermarket radiator, 160 thermostat, and big aftermarket oil cooler.
I reckon Corvettes just don't get the airflow at speeds below 50, and the fans do all the work.
I can see 235 if i'm stuck in traffic on a hot day !!! I going to run EVANS COOLANT. They say this stuff doesn't boil until 375 degrees, were as water/coolant boils sooner and other technical improvements . Hope this stuff works for the price i paid. I'm just wondering if i should go 160 stat. I don't have that computer to program the fans to come on earlier. Whatever, I'll figure it out
