II don't have a 96 manual so 'm looking at a 95 Helms manual.
The engine is stamped with a partial vehicle identification number. The
stamping contains nine positions.
Position 1-9
1=Chevrolet
2=model year s=1995
5=Bowling Green
4-9 represent the assembly plant sequential number for the vehicle. Which should match the last 6 digits of your vin #.
The 'matching numbers' number is on the driverside rear an the same level as the cylinder head deck. It that matches the end of your VIN...you have a winner.
LT1's (atleast 95 and 96-my personal experience) are not on the pad in front of the passenger cylinder head. That pad shows what the engine was built for-ie LT4 application for a Corvette.
The pad to the rear and down from the driverside cylinder head (on the extreme rear of the engine block-still readable when engine is in car) will have the VIN stamping.
Thanks guys, I'll look tomorrow and see if I can find anything else.
Does anybody know what that number is that I found. I am assuming that I have the standard LT1.
I looked for the VIN on the rear pass. side of the engine. I can't see anything. I even used an adjustabel mirror.
I was looking down onto the engine to find it, I can't come up with anything. SHould I be underneatht the car?
I'm sorry, I could of sworn that your reply said Passanger side. Now after actually reading it, you did say drivers side. I will check there. Thanks for your help and sorry for being a dumb %!$
