need quick 4 +3 help
just drove an 85 with 58k.........4 + 3 tranny OD engages fine but when the OD is not engaged there is whine that increases w/ speed......goes away when you engage OD........is this normal???

I recall reading about a whine only when the OD is off. I'll have to look it up, but I do remember that it wasn't normal and was an indication of somethinig wrong.

This symtom is a sign that the carrier bearing in the OD section is going out. Mine has this problem. I am nursing this along until I can replace the transmission.
