Default A/C issues

I have a '96 LT-1 and when I start my car, my A/C blows only on my feet and the windshield. It takes about 2 minutes for the A/C to shift to the front blowers. I was told that this could be due to some chip that needs to be reprogrammed or possibly some of the vents need cleaning. Do any of you have experience with this problem? Are there any other solutions? Thanks.

It suppose to do this to keep the windshield from fogging up - 2 minutes is a little long, but it doesn't sound like it's really broke.

Actually this could be a couple of things - what you are probably referring to is the AC Programmer (I am pretty sure that is what it is called). It is a jobby under the driver's side dash that controls the vents. Hope you don't have to go there ($). It could also be a vacuum connection under the passenger side fuel rail cover. It is actually a check valve (plastic barrel about 3/4 of an inch) with a T connection out the back. This thing deteriorates and causes a vacum leak that acts very similar to a bad programmer (try to turn it over - the underside is usually much worse). The default position of the vents is heater/defrost, so if the programmer can't use vacuum to tell the vents where to go, that's what you get. If either of these is a problem, it will probably get worse. I have had both go out on my 96. There are many posts on this subject, so I will humbly suggest you try a couple searches. And be careful when you check the vacum connection - mine came apart when I tried to remove it.
