I don't know very much about engines or mods, so here I go. My car is much faster than my dad's 1990 L98. Is it possible that one of the previous owners had put a stroker crank into it, or would other stuff have to be modified too? The exterior of the engine looks just like any other X-Fire engine and it still has the x-fire injection, factory headers, etc.
Keeping it in the family....like how super is that.....
anyway.....have you checked with the past owners yet.....might be a good idea.......
Anyway...congrat's on the family thing......GREAT....

The guy we bought it from was an idiot. I don't think he really knew much about the car, and he probably wouldn't appreciate me asking who he bought it from. He just seemed like that kind of guy. I did mention a few times that when me and my dad were cleaning out the car, we found a marble pipe under the seat. And no, the crap that was left in it was not tobacco.
Maybe he was a drug runner and hopped up the engine a little. :D
I could only hope. Still, anyone know if you can put a stroker crank into it and leave everything else stock? Forgot, he put an X-Chip (?) into it too.
The OE system will work fine with the typical 383 stroker kit. The limiting factor in the crossfire system is the intake air flow rate at high rpm(above 4000) The stock injectors will flow enough fuel to feed the engine and you will run out of air before fuel due to the intake runner design. As long as you dont go crazy with your camshaft selection you computer will be fine, the computer does not know what side engine its running let alone bore or stroke and it really doesnt care its a simple processor designed to adjust fuel mixture and timing based on inputs.
Might want to check gas tank and make sure there are no wrapped packages in their. :D Friend bought a boxster at an auction. One day while driving with top down noticed a plastic bag blowing around in AC vent. Small bag of crack rocks. No kidding.
I heard a story about a guy who bought a Pathfinder at a federal auction and went to Mexico with some friends. Apparently the feds didn't clean it out completely and the Mexican cops found lots of pot around the truck and arrested the guys.
You can look for some stealth go-fast goodies. Are the heads still Iron? Look in the oil filler for Roller Rockers. Can you tell if the intake has been off or machined? If it a stock look fast running L83 that intake was likely heavily ported. You would get more from that than a bigger crank. Yes you can stroke that block, but most would do that in additiooin to the other stuff. Look on the CFI website, I bet all the tricks were done.

Well, I'm not too sure what has been done. The whole stroker idea was just a guess because I can't think of any other way to really make a X-Fire fast without changing the intake or the whole engine (but then it wouldn't be a X-Fire). I should have it checked out, at the Vette Doctors in Amityville if possible.
I'm not sure how fast your or your dad's Vettes are, but could it be that your dad's needs a good tuneup?
When I bought my car it desperately needed a tuneup and the exhaust was trashed. I dropped probably 4 seconds in the quarter mile after getting it back as it was supposed to be.
No, the guy that sold it to him owns 2 or 3 auto parts stores and had everything replaced (belts, filters, etc.) even if it didn't need to be. He had it tuned up within a few months of selling it.

Well, the x-fire can look like it's still there and the intake could be an aftermarket single plane intake. There was a guy who used to sell them with modified lower bases that allowed the stock x-fire upper base to be attached and working. This supposedly made a better intake system than even the worked over super ram TPI intake.
Check the lower base intake...see if it looks like an Eldebrock or Holley 4 barrel intake.
