A forum member asked this question last summer but didn't get an answer to his question(I did a lot of searching trying to find the answer).
Does the '92 have a CS-130 Alternator? Research seems to indicate the '94 thru '96 had the CS-144 but I can't seem to find what model the '92 has. I think its a 124V alternator but I'm not sure.
I'm looking to make the swap - all I've been able to find is swapping from an L98 not between LT1's...
I bought mine from Discount Auto Parts. It was $135 with a $30 core charge. It was new, they do not sell rebuilt CS144's, the parts book said it was not available.
I know GM wants about twice that...so stay away from the dealer or anyone who uses dealer prices.

Hmmmmm, interesting they have a core charge for brand new units. That's an unbelievably low price for a CS-144. What's the website/phone number to this outfit?

Help!
To answer the question, no the 92 LT1 does not have the CS130, it has a CS144. Now the 92 had a lower current of 124A ~ as oppsed to the 94 with 140A. I have a CS144 from a 1994 Vette in my 89 and it works great.

Thanks Jeff - that is exactly what I was looking for. I couldn't tell if the CS-130 was for L98's only. You're right - our current alternator is 124A and I thought going to a CS-144 might help our problem (turns out it won't).
We had to replace the alternator in my son's '92 end of last summer. We bought a DELCO rebuilt from a local parts store that oddly has access to these units! Well, 5 weeks ago it went again - still under 1 yr warranty so I got it replaced NC. Last week, it just went again! Each time, we get the DieHard battery checked out of the car as well as in the car with an electrical systems check - results always point to a bad alternator and its the same thing each time. We got the car tested at the GM dealer we go to and the results were identical - bad alternator.
There is an outstanding local company that rebuilds anything electrical for automotive use. Got it bench tested last time and again this time. Each time the diagnosis was a bad Rectifier. The tech explained that the diode paks had shorted because of HEAT!! He explained what happened and how they can rebuild it with a double-diode pak (for greater heat resistance) for $65. But since it was under warranty (another 6 weeks!) I would just replace it and come see him next time (as I'm sure it will go again). I guess some of the forum members have referred to this double-diode pak as an "icepack" upgrade so I guess that's my route if the alternator goes south again. I don't believe a higher amp-rated alternator would be any better (unless it was built with the double-diode pak and I don't know where to find that out...).
Jeff - I want to put a 140 alternator into my 89 Vert. Is it a direct fit or do I have to do some modifying to the alternator or electrics, and if so what?
