Ok, the time has come to get off of my lazy butt and put my car back together. I was wondering if anyone has installed an engine in the car with the complete TPI setup already on the long block. I want to install the fuel rail/injectors, runners, plenum, etc. while the engine is on the stand and then drop the engine in. Is this possible? Thanks.
When I installed my engine I had the intake off, but when I pulled the 350 out of my '67 C10 I put bolts in the accessary holes on the heads connected a chain between the two out she came.
Just put mine in without the intake / plenum. I think it would be possible, but some of the brackets/studs that go on the back of the heads will be a real pain to get to. Some of the sensors / plugs might be tough also, like the one on the bottom of the plenum and the EGR. They will be real hard to reach with the plenum already in.
It's not a big deal to put the intake / plenum on after it is in the car. Maybe do everything except the plenum?
Oh, I meant to install all of the associated intake sensors on the TPI and intake before I drop the engine in the car. I think I can drop the engine in the car with the entire intake, as long as the distributor isn't on the engine, but I could be wrong. Anyone do this? TTT.
Mounting the sensors is not what I am talking about. You have to connect the harness to those sensors and if the plenum is on the sensors are really hard to get to. When you remove the plenum you reach under it to unplug the sensor and you plug it in before you install the plenum. I don't think it is impossible, but you will likely end up pulling the plenum off again to hook it up.
